Year 3 – Fire Lays – Forest School 11.3.26
Year 3 have begun learning how to make their own fires which we will use to make Egyptian flat breads in a few weeks. They started by looking at the fire triangle and discussing the three things that are needed to make a fire. Then they learned what a fire lay is, and explored the 6 different types of fire lay. We gathered sticks of various sizes and tried to make every type, including a tepee, cabin and an altar fire lay which are the three we mainly use here at Cookridge. The pupils used pictures to help and had to use a lot of resilience to recreate them, especially when children had to carefully balance sticks yet they kept falling over! Next week, children will be challenged to build a fire lay and set it on fire, with the hope of keeping it alive!
