Year 4 – Big Garden Birdwatch – Forest School
Year 4 have had a Forest School afternoon with a difference – we spent half of it inside a classroom due to the muddy, waterlogged conditions and many pupils not having outdoor shoes. However, whilst inside, children were able to watch a live stream of a bird feeder and we discussed the RSPB’s upcoming annual, Big Garden Birdwatch which begins tomorrow. Children could watch the live video and identify the birds that came to visit the feeders, do some mindful colouring of birds found here in there UK where pupils had to match up the colours on the feathers as perfectly as they could or play a game of bird top trumps using cards. The second half of the session was spent outside bird watching or making fat balls using lard, seeds and strong to help feed the birds here at Cookridge or at home if pupils wanted to take them home for their own gardens.
