Year 5 – Sliding Knot and Hammocks – Forest School
Year 5 pupils enjoyed their next session in their series of lessons on knots and their uses. After a quick recap and practice of the previous knots (Prusik and Bowline) they had learnt before half-term, children were introduced to a new one – the sliding knot. Pupils were tasked with mastering it in several different scenarios and tying it onto different surfaces which had different thicknesses. Next came a demonstration on how to put up a hammock using the sliding knot. After a couple of practices, children were then tasked to hang their hammocks using the steps provided. Before each turn, children were in control of managing their own risk and had to check their knots were still tight as well as other safety elements before their friends go it. An excellent first session on sliding knots and hammocks Year 5!
