Year 6 Group 1 – Little Beck Farm

Today was the start of Year 6’s second visit to Little Beck Farm in near Masham. Once arriving at the farm, children were given the task of feeding the pigs where they had to weigh out amounts of specific feed mixes for the size, age and number of pigs in the various pens. Afterwards, children visited the farm orchard where they picked a variety of apples and pears including conference, bramley, golden delicious and pippin in order to make fresh fruit juice. In the outdoor classroom, we then chopped, de-seeded, milled and filtered the pulp before tasting the produce which we made. After lunch, children then became butchers and made their own sausages to bring back to school and cook at the fire pit in a future Forest School. Children learnt about the different cuts of meat from a pig and minced and mixed ingredients together before using sausage casings to create sausages!
