Y5 – Knots – Forest School
Today, Year 5 pupils built on their previous session on knots by putting the three known knots to the test. After a revision of the basics of the Bowline, Prusik and Sliding Knot, children were challenged to use them to either pitch a shelter using tarps, pegs and ropes using Bowline and Prusik knots or erect a hammock using the sliding knot. Although they didn’t find it easy, children persevered and, in some cases, had to take their hammock down and start again. Despite some setbacks, they succeeded through problem solving, resilience and teamwork and we discussed how that sense of accomplishment they felt having had done it without adults doing it for them, was such a good emotion to have. Well done Year 5!
