KS1 – Newsletter – 20.6.25
Thank you to everyone who came along to support the children in Sport’s Day this Thursday. It was a great afternoon, if a little warm, but all the children worked really hard.
After our fantastic trip to Bridlington last week, we have been writing all about it in English this week. We wrote a recount of where we went, what we did, how we felt etc.. We focused on writing in chronological order and using time connectives to ensure our writing followed the correct sequence. We then published our fantastic writing for our folders. Our phonics lessons have been using suffixes. Year one have been adding -ed to create past tense verbs. Year Two have been adding -ful, -less and -ly and discussing what they do to the word.
In Maths, Year One have been learning about money. They have been identifying the different coins and notes and recognising their value. They have been able to compare the different coins and notes and have also been thinking about which coins they could use to purchase an item. One group in Year Two have continued to learn about time. They have been thinking about how long different tasks may take and have begun to read a clock to the nearest five minutes. Please practise this skill with your children at home, because it is one they find quite tricky! The other group have been doing statistics. They have been learning how to use a bar chart and tally chart. They have created their own charts and been able to read information off charts.
We made characters from the Gruffalo out of plasticine in computing and then created our own animation. They children used ipads to film the story, as the rest of their team moved their plasticine characters around telling the story. They really enjoyed watching them back and discussing ways to improve them, eg thinking about where their hand was positioned infront of the camera.
We have been observing our cress plants in science. We have been ensuring that they have water and remain in the sunlight each day. We have been measuring their growth and noticed that it grows quite quickly. We have recorded the height each day and drawn pictures to show the rapid growth.
In PE, we enjoyed our ‘Fun moves’ assessment at the beginning of the week. It monitors the children’s abilities in running, throwing, kicking and balancing.
We have been focusing on human and physical features in Geography again. This time, we used a map to draw on some human and physical features. We thought about which human features clustered together and why eg houses, shops, schools etc..
