We have continued to look at the book ‘Zog’ in our English lessons. We have been focusing on handwriting and thinking about how to start the letter – with a curly caterpillar, long legged giraffe etc.. The children wrote their letters into the correct sorting box. They focused on handwriting by copying sentences from the story and thinking about which are ascenders and descenders. Finally, they wrote their own sentences about the characters in the story. We have begun our full phonics sessions this week, with year One focusing on /ay/ for play and Year Two have been focusing on /ge/ and /dge/ for cage and fridge.
We also continued our Zog theme during our forest school session. We thought about the things that Zog could do. We then all had a go at making a spark of fire using the flints. We just let them fly into the air this time, but soon, we will attempt to use the spark to actually start a fire.
In Year One, The children have been doing lots of counting. They have been counting on from a given number, putting numbers from 0-20/ 30 in the correct order and have begun counting backwards. Year Two have continued to focus on place value and what each of the numbers in a two-digit number represents and then understanding which number is larger or smaller when ordering two-digit numbers.
We have been looking at maps and Atlases and thinking about where we live and how we can find it on a map in Geography. The children wrote out the names of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom and placed them on a map.
At Cookridge Primary, we value RE lessons for learning about different faiths. We want to learn the basics of each faith and give the children opportunities to talk about their own experiences and to ask questions about what other people believe, practise and celebrate. This week, we began by allowing the children to discuss what they think they already know about the Christian and Muslim faith.
In science, we have been thinking about what things float and what sinks. We completed an experiment using different fruits to see which would float and which would sink and why. We made predictions before carrying out the experiment and then looked to see if we were correct afterwards.
We were doing fundamentals in PE. Learning about how to be safe in PE lessons, how to stop and listen, use the space and be safe. We played all kinds of fun games to get the children moving about and get their heart rate up.
In PSHE, we completed a Mindmate lesson thinking about what we are good at and the achievements we have made. We also thought about what our friends do well and shared positive thoughts with each other. We then thought about the things that we would like to be able to do or achieve and set ourselves goals.
