EYFS – Newsletter – 21/11/2025

Brrrrrr! It’s been a cold one this week but that hasn’t stopped us getting outdoors and exploring. The children have loved investigating the snow and ice, with some interesting observations of freezing and melting along the way.

Our Toytown topic has continued this week, with a focus on comparing new and old toys. This found us talking about the differences between toys now and the type of toys played with a hundred years ago. We discussed how modern toys are much more likely to be made with plastic and contain electronic elements. Reception loved having the chance to get hands on with some electronic toys as well as some traditional metal and wooden toys like a spinning top or Jacob’s ladder. The elves have been busy again, tapping away in Santa’s workshop to make robot toys to be delivered this Christmas. Many children also enjoyed taking inspiration from videos we watched of Rube Goldberg machines and got set to work trying to come up with their own chain reactions using a variety of materials both indoors and out!

Phonics sessions this week have introduced the phonemes ‘b’ (ball) ‘h’ (house) and ‘r’ (robot) and the children are becoming more confident to blend sounds to read words and segment words to spell them accurately.

Maths sessions have focused on the numbers 4 and 5, with the children investigating the different ways these numbers can be composed and decomposed in a variety of different ways.

On Monday, the children really enjoyed our regular Reading Buddies session with the year 6 children as they sat together and shared books.

Have a lovely weekend!
