KS1 – Newsletter – 28.11.25
Thank you to everyone who has brought in things for the fair, the team point tubes have been overflowing this week. We can’t wait to see you all then for some festive fun!
In English, we have been thinking about how to state a balanced argument. We have been thinking about the airport and the idea of an expansion. The children worked together to think of arguments for and against the expansion of the airport, such as extra noise and pollution, and more people being able to go on holiday to more places. They then used all these arguments to write a for and against piece with a conclusion. Finally, at the end of the week, we had an oral debate about the airport, putting the different opinions across and deciding which we thought had the strongest argument.
Year One have been ordering numbers this week in maths. They were whizzes at comparing numbers last week and this enabled the to put them into order. They were taking 4 random numbers (not consecutive) and putting them in order. They also began to look at numberlines and where a number would appear on the line when all numbers are not filled in. In Year Two, one group have continued to practise their addition skills, answering word problems using bar models and column addition. The other group have been identifying 2D shapes and have been learning about the different properties of each 2D shape.
In history, the children were recognising that history is everything that has already happened. They themselves, have years of history. They were thinking about all the different things that have happened in their lives and putting some of the major events onto a timeline.
We have been investigating materials again in science. The children looked at a variety of objects naming the object and what it is made from. They then wrote about what properties they each had. We noted the reason why tables are made of wood and not fabric and why wood would not be a good material for clothing.
In design technology, the children have been attaching draw bridges to their castles using string and split pins to make them retractable. In food technology, the children have been making flapjack. Their main skills this week, were reading and following a recipe. Weighing out the correct amount of each ingredient and stirring it all together well, before pressing into a tin to bake.
We have continued learning about how babies are welcomed in RE and this week the children learnt about The Aqiqah in the Muslim faith. They learned about the babe being given a sweet taste of fruit juice, The call the prayer being whispered in their ear and how meat or money is given to charity.
Year One have been looking at graphic scores in music. They have allocated different sounds to each ornament on a Christmas tree matching sounds to symbols and created musical pieces. Year Two, have been listening to the Russian Dance from the Nutcracker. They have choregraphed their own dance routine and created a listening map to plot the different dance moves.
In art, the children have been doing paper engineering. They have been writing their Christmas wishes, using paper curling techniques and adding them on to a Christmas tree.
Once again our week has ended with our fabulous alternative PE. A new group of children went to the skate park to learn how to balance on a skateboard and scooter, whilst travelling up and down the ramps. The other groups enjoyed fencing and Zumba.
