Year 5 – New Kitchen Garden – Forest School

In today’s Forest School sessions, Year 5 pupils relocated the school’s Kitchen Garden in preparation for the Spring and to help renovate our outdoor area. Children had to measure out the area of the new growing bed, lay cardboard as a mulch and cover with a layer of nutrient rich mushroom compost. Meanwhile, another group were in the existing Kitchen Garden carefully removing the herbs and plants, ensuring they got as much of the root ball as possible. Then, children had to follow a plan to make sure the plants were relocated to their new growing positions in the newly created bed to ensure they had enough space and room to grow away in the Spring when they days get longer and warmer once more. Well done Year 5 as this wasn’t an easy job!
