KS1 – Newsletter – 12.12.25

It has been a full and exciting week in Key Stage One, with our dress rehearsal on Monday, Our main show on Wednesday and our Grand parent event on Friday. We are sure that you will all be hugely proud of your children, who have been absolutely magnificent learning their lines and such confident actors! Watch out people in the West End, Cookridge children are preparing themselves! Only one more singalong to go outside Asda on Monday morning, feel free to come along to support them again.

We have been reading Christmas stories in English this week and completing reading comprehensions. We have been very proud of the Year one children particularly, who are learning these skills for the first time. The children then used the inspiration of their elves they created, to retell the story of the elf on the shelf, thinking about how it travels to a families home,  gets touched by one of the children and ends up in the elf hospital. Thankfully they all had happy endings with a sorry letter being sent.

Year One have begun to learn about 3D shapes this week in Maths. They have been naming the shapes of the faces – drawing on their knowledge of 2D shapes from last week and learning the names of the shapes. They have been sorting them into groups and looking at things like whether the shapes can be stacked or rolled. Year Two have been completing informal Maths assessments for us to see where they are at by the end of this term.

In music, Year One have been playing a game of guessing the sound of the instrument when it’s hidden. They have been learning the names of instruments they may not have seen or heard before. Year Two have been doing the Arabian dance and the Chinese dance from The Nutcracker. They have done mirror/ shadow dancing for the Arabian dance and for the Chinese dance, they made fans and choreographed dances using them.

Mrs Ledda treated the children to one of her beautiful drawings in art. They each received a special opening Christmas home picture and did a listening and observation task of finding and colouring different things within the picture and completed a quiz.

The children have been learning about road safety in PSHE this week. They had some special visitors in to talk with them first, before completing consolidatory tasks reminding them of the key things they must do when crossing the road. It’s not every day that Santa and his elf call by the teach you these important lessons!

We watched the Christmas story in RE and thought about how baby Jesus was welcomed by the different characters. Mary and Joseph gave him a special name with meaning, the angels announced his birth, the shepherds went to visit him and the kings/ wise men brought him expensive gifts.

We ended the week with our alternative PE. The last group had their second trip to the skate park, class 1 were fencing and there was noodle drumming and yoga happening in the other groups.

One more week to go…..we can do this!
