EYFS – Newsletter – 19/12/2025
Well we have reached the end of our first term at Cookridge Primary School in Reception! It’s been a fantastic term getting settled into school life and seeing all the children develop their skills and confidence in their learning – as well as making friends and having a lot of fun!
Despite the Christmassy chaos there has been some learning going on this week too. In phonics sessions we have been revisiting the sounds we have learned so far in Reception and practising how to use them to write and read words in some fun Christmas themed activities, such as hunting for Christmas pictures to read words and to labelling Christmas pictures. It’s been incredible to see the progress made across the past term and we can’t wait to see how much more we can learn after Christmas.
Maths has seen us recapping the numbers we have learned too – practising to recognise and write them. We have also been concentrating on the skill of counting accurately with children tasked with totalling up the presents in various sacks and counting out the right number of counters to add as colourful baubles on some Christmas trees.
Aside from that this has been one completely Christmassy week filled with fun and frolics. We’ve had lots of festive activities for the children to engage in, such as making Rudolph pictures by printing 2D shapes with sponges and filling up miniature sleighs with presents containing phonemes to spell out some words. Tuesdays disco saw lots of us having a ball down in the hall with lots of music and dancing (and most excitingly of all – a snow machine!). And a big thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Christmas performance on Thursday – it was so lovely to you all there and the children had a great time singing their hearts out! The children also had a fabulous time eating Christmas dinner together on Friday – especially pulling the crackers and putting on their paper crowns.
On Wednesday, the Reception children finished the last robot toy of their quota and they were packaged up ready for Santa to collect. On Thursday morning, both our elf Rudolph and the robots were gone but towards the end of the day we received a special letter. Santa had received the robots and wanted to say a big thank you to all the boys and girls for all their hard work – which he rewarded with a chocolate gold coin each. Plus, it turns out that Santa had overestimated the demand for wooden robots made by four year olds, so he returned them all for the Reception children to bring home to play with themselves!
As we say goodbye to 2025, we sadly also say goodbye to Miss Bostock, who is moving on in her teacher training to a Year 1 class after the winter break. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and we’re sure the children will miss her in Reception. Good luck Miss Bostock!
We’ve had so much fun this term and can’t wait to see the children rested and refreshed in January!
Have a very happy and peaceful Christmas!
