Wellbeing Wednesday – Forest School

On a cold and frosty morning, pupils in Wellbeing Wednesday took to the challenges asked of them with enthusiasm and lots of energy! We discussed how life is full of scenarios where jobs need completing even though we may not want to and the importance of doing them to a good standard. Using garden forks, children helped clear piles of old weeds and grass which had been pulled out of the new hedgerow planted last Spring into wheelbarrows and transported them to the compost bins. Pupils then helped Mr Gamble plant new trees in any gaps they found in the hedgerow. Once completed, we talked about our feelings at doing the job and how they had successfully acheived it. It was great to hear words like ‘proud’ ‘great teamwork’ and ‘determined’ by the children. As a reward, we then lit a fire in the canopy classroom and enjoyed hot, fresh popcorn which the pupils cooked over an open fire. Pupils in the younger group did a very similar activity but their job was to check on the animals after all the rain yesterday. Pupils helped Mr Gamble top up feeders, provide fresh water and collect the eggs as well as inspecting the animals to check for any health issues – there was so much to do and it was very hands on that we didn’t get a lot of photos! Again, once complete, children used the canopy classroom for making popcorn for a delicious reward for all their efforts. Well done everyone!
