KS1 – Newsletter – 6.2.26
We have continued reading the story ‘The Hunter’ and using this as a base for our writing. The children have been using conjunctions to join to simple sentences together. They have looked at pictures from the story and written sentences about them, remembering to include different conjunctions.
Year One have been subtracting in maths. They are now able to subtract from larger numbers, using number lines, part whole models and have even been answering word problems. In Year Two one group have continued to find the missing number using the inverse and have started to balance the equation, looking at what values to match. The other group have continued their work on money and have been investigating a variety of ways to make the same amount.
The children have been looking a pictures of Durer’s rhino in art. They were looking at the patterns and textures of the print and thinking about how they were formed, preparing for when they do their own print making.
In music, Year One have been learning a song in Swahili which comes from Kenya or Tanzania. They have been playing tuned percussion instruments along side it. Year Two, have been learning a song called ‘Engine, engine’ and have also been using tuned percussion to accompany the song, thinking about how the music could change as the train gets closer.
The children have continued making their elephants in design technology. After designing and cutting out their patterns, this week, they began to sew the patterns onto the front of their elephant.
We have been listening to a story all about recycling in science on ‘Now Press Play’. We have been learning about which materials can be recycled, how and why this is important.
We have been looking at how to stay safe when using technology in PSHE. We have looked at age rating placed on games and programmes and why it is important to follow these ratings. We also discussed ways that the children might access different forms of technology and why this could present problems and what they should do if that happens. We appreciate support from parents in ensuring your children are safe on line, especially always having an adult present when using technology.
We ended the week with our fabulous alternative PE. The groups have rotated around again to do Axe throwing, table tennis, Pilates and Bench ball.
