UKS2 – Knots and Shelters – Forest School

Today we revisited some of our favourite knots at Forest School – the Bowline and Prusik! The session began with a revision of the two knots, how they are tied together and their uses. Children were challenged to tie them onto den building sticks and ropes in preparation for tying them to trees and floatlines later. After a demonstration of how to erect the shelter using both knots, pegs, a floatline and a tarp, children organised themselves into teams and set out on their quest – to erect their shelter using the Bowline and Prusik all with no adult help! Good communication and problem-solving skills were needed to succeed and it was great to see so many of the teams get their shelters up which they played in and decorated.
