EYFS Newsletter – 11.09.2026
What a fantastic start we have had to school in our first week in Reception! The children have really started to settle into life at Cookridge Primary School with ease. It has been lovely to see the little ones exploring all the different areas of provision and making use of the various activities. Friendships are blossoming and it’s great to see children getting to know each other and sharing the space and resources so well. We have enjoyed walks around the school getting to know all the different parts of Cookridge from passing by all the other classes, taking a look in the library and saying hello to the school dogs Rory and Alfie.
We have also begun talking about our first topic of our year which is ‘All About Me’. We tried to learn each other’s names to help making new friends easier and all had a go at clapping the syllables in our names. Following this introduction we have spent some sessions discussing different types of families and how families can look different but all share the same core of love and care for one another. The staff have been introducing the children to our families via some family portraits and talking about things that we like to do with the special people in our lives. In turn, the children have been very keen to talk about their families and share with us the special people in their lives.
On Thursday, Reception enjoyed their first Forest Schools session with Mr Gamble in the school garden. We got to explore different areas of the school grounds with children choosing to use the dig pit or the sand pit, to hang out in the hammocks strung between the trees and to have a go at building dens with large sticks and branches. It luckily stayed dry and we all had a lot of fun getting stuck into the Forest Schools experience!
The staff this week have been busy snapping away to get photos of the children as they have explored their new classroom and made friends but sadly we do not yet have a complete list of permissions to use children’s pictures on the school website yet. A consents sections should be appearing on children’s Arbor profiles next week. A notifications will be sent out on the school app when it does and this will need to be completed as soon as possible. It this will include permissions such as photograph use e.g. Tapestry and the school website, and also documents such as the Cookridge home/school agreement. Moving forward, a newsletter with information and pictures from the week will be posted on the school website each Friday. Posts about progress in Phonics and maths will be posted on Tapestry every couple of weeks to share children’s learning in more detail.
Thank you to all family members for your support and patience with the start of schools, especially at drop off and pick up. We hope you all have a brilliant weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!
