Phonics – Exploring Silent Letters!
Our Year 1 and Year 2 children have been busy exploring the ‘n’ sound, focusing on words containing the silent letters ‘kn’ and ‘gn’, such as knee, knight, gnome and gnaw.
We became phonics detectives, searching around the classroom for hidden words and spotting the different ways we can spell the ‘n’ sound. The children then sorted words into groups based on their spelling patterns.
We also enjoyed playing a phonics board game, helping us practise recognising and reading these tricky words in a fun and engaging way!
These activities have helped the children develop their phonics knowledge, word recognition and confidence when reading and spelling.
