Wellbeing Forest School – Autumn Jobs – 3/11/26

We have had a lovely afternoon outside today with both groups out together to make the most of the time. Everyone got stuck into various jobs in the school garden. These involved learning about composting and why compost is so good for growing healthy plants and crops. We inspected the current vegetable beds and compost bins before making ‘leaf mould.’ Working as a team, children raked fallen leaves into a pile before scooping them up into a wheelbarrow and transporting them to the composting area. We checked on last year’s leaf mould and compared the fresh fallen leaves, the year-old leaf mould and the finished product of compost. In two years’ time, we will be adding the rotten down leaves onto our school vegetable garden! After that, the children added some Cookridge made compost to ‘earth up’ their Christmas potatoes they planted several weeks ago. With a bit of luck, we should be harvesting some potatoes for the children to take home for Christmas dinner in roughly 6 weeks!
