Today’s Maths Mission – Solving Multi-Step Problems

Today, the children have been developing their problem-solving skills by tackling multi-step maths questions. They have been acting as maths detectives, breaking down problems into smaller steps, identifying the correct operations and working carefully towards finding the final answer.

Our three key reminders were:

1. Identify the steps: Look carefully for the different calculations hidden within a question. Remember, there may be two or three steps to complete!
2. Watch the units: Pay close attention when converting between pence and pounds (£), or centimetres and metres (m).
3. Prove it: Always check that your final answer makes sense and is reasonable.

A great opportunity to put our maths skills, reasoning and problem-solving strategies into practice!
