Class 6 and 7 – History

This morning, we learnt all about the shaduf, an important mechanism used by the Ancient Egyptians. We learnt that the shaduf was used to carry water that originated from the River Nile, to canals and then to irrigation systems used in farming. Our project for the morning was to design and make our own mini shaduf! We had to think carefully about how to make the weight element of the mechanism work, to ensure that the bucket with water in would definitely move. We used lolly sticks, Sellotape, cardboard and string.
