EYFS – Newsletter – 11.03.22

Reception have had a bit of a different week, with Miss Rushworth and Mrs Arnott both absent because of illness, but they have kept going admirably.

Tuesday’s P.E. session was a great success and the children loved finding different ways to travel around when acting out the story of ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ by Michael Rosen.

In Maths this week, we’ve been looking at ‘number bonds’ to make 10 and exploring this concept in lots of different ways. The children have gone on treasure hunts to find objects to fill tens frames and used these frames to make number sentences adding to ten.

Phonics has seen us learning and applying the phase 3 phonemes ‘oi’ ‘ow’ and ‘ear’. Children have written some fantastic sentences using these phonemes and played games to practice reading words containing these new sounds.

We have also had a lot of fun working on a special creative project this week. Each class in school has been tasked with creating an outfit for a mannequin with the brief of ‘Springtime for recycling’  After a discussion about the many things we can recycle, Reception class decided to make a rainbow outfit out of different coloured crisp packets. With the addition of a sunshine crown and a raindrop necklace the final effect was quite spring-like and certainly colourful!

Next Thursday, March 17th, is Forest Schools again, after a break for World Book Day last time. Though the weather looks to be improving at last, please come prepared in warm outdoor clothes and suitable footwear.
