KS1 – Den Building – Forest School
Today in our Forest School sessions, pupils in KS1 began learning about building dens. To start with, children looked at three different types of dens already built on the school field called ‘A-Frame’, ‘Lean-To’ and ‘Tepee.’ Pupils discussed each one, looking at their features and what similarities and differences they all had. After a crash course in how to construct each type, children organised themselves into groups to explore and investigate building all three types of dens. Along the way, they had to work together, communicate effectively and problem solve and, once complete, safely take down their den before re-building a different type. They reflected on which ones were easier or harder to construct as well as highlighting things that didn’t go to plan and how they overcame challenges when building them – a great day KS1 – well done everyone on your first session of den building.
