KS1 – Newsletter – 14.2.20

We have had a fantastic week finishing off our topic on Space.

We have been looking at the differences between Tim Peake and Neil Armstrong. We have learnt about Neil Armstrong being the first person to land on the moon and that Tim Peake was the first British astronaut to go to the International Space Station (ISS).

We have watched videos of life on the ISS and have been writing diaries of a day in the life of an astronaut. We have also been focusing on using capital letters, full stops and question marks within our writing. We have done this through hot seating and role play and used questions within a letter to Tim Peake.

In DT we watched some footage of moon buggies on the moon. We then designed our own moon buggies, making sure we included key things such as a satellite. We then used a variety of modelling materials to try and make our moon buggies.

In Science we were designing and making astronauts space suits. We looked at all sorts of different materials and thought about which ones would be good to use because they are flexible, transparent or strong.

We have working on our addition and subtraction in Year 1, representing this on bar models, whole-part-part models, numberlines and recording these in number families. Year 2 have been using their multiplication and division skills to solve word problems and to answer number sentences ensuring they have used the correct operation.

Computing was a difficult one this week. We had a set of algorithms that had an incorrect step. We had to programme the Beebots and try to work out where the algorithm had gone wrong. We then needed to debug it and write the correct algorithm.

Have a fantastic break together and we will see you on 25th February
