KS1 – Newsletter – 16.10 20

It turned out to be a different week in KS1, but there has still been some fabulous learning!

Year 1 have been looking at the difference between Fiction and Non-fiction books. They were categorising books into Fiction and Non-Fiction and enjoyed reading and exploring them together. They looked at the features of non-fiction books, such as the contents page, glossary, photograph and captions, labels and headings. Why not have a look in some books together and see if you can find these features in your books. Year 2 have also been reading non fiction texts and have been completing RIC’s (Reading Comprehensions) retrieving key information from the text.

In Maths Year 1 have been counting and working with number lines. They have created rocket number lines and have been finding missing numbers on number lines developing understanding of what number comes next and what number comes before. Year 2 have begun to compare numbers. They have been comparing numbers using Base 10, being able to physically see the greater number, especially when there are more 10’s. We also took our learning outside to continue comparing numbers and have been impressed with the children’s abilities so far.

In Science year 1 began to concentrate on food chain. We have been learning key words such as carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. We looked which animals eat grass or lettuce and thought about how some animals eat other animals. We made food chains grass – rabbit – fox. We noticed that some animals appeared in various food chains.

On PPA day the children enjoyed their specialist teaching. In PE the children have been practising their ball skills, learning how to pass, catch and stop balls. In Art the children made spider webs and snail trails using silver transfers and glue sticks. Music was a tuneful event, as the children made their own ‘long and short’ patterns using craft materials. They then played these on chime bars having explored techniques to make long and short sounds.

We hope that you are all managing to access the home learning resources that we have provided for you. We are looking forward to seeing all the things that you have been doing and checking in properly with you all next week. Please e mail us with any issues or questions that you have and enjoy your home learning experience over the next week.

This will give an opportunity for the children to chat with the teachers and show the work they have been doing (Parents must be present please).
