LKS2 – Newsletter – 04/11/19

Despite the dreary weather this week, LKS2 have had lots of fun. During the Cross Curricular Day on Monday, we went outside to practice our Forest School skills by safely using flints, whittling knives and bow saws.

We also undertook a Geography lesson all about the human and physical features in our surroundings. The whole class went outside and found lots of human and physical features that were in our playground. We then looked at various charts such as tally charts and bar charts to record and present our data.

In PE, the year 3’s took part in their first lesson since being back from half term. The focus for this lesson was gymnastics and we learnt all about how to control our bodies using our balance whilst we studied the difference between symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes. We used our physical skills individually and in partners to make many different shapes then also figured out how to travel in a symmetrical and asymmetrical way.

This week in English, we have been looking at ordering events in our class story ‘The Animals of Farthing Wood’ in chronological order. Once we had completed this challenge, we then sorted the events again but this time in order of importance. We had to discuss each event and use evidence from the text and our opinions to back up our reasons.

In Y3, we’ve been learning about mass! We started the week weighing different objects from around the classroom, using weighing scales to help us find the mass in g or kg. We have also worked on our estimating skills, estimating the mass of different objects. Finally, we have compared different masses using < > or =.
