LKS2 Newsletter 14/5/2021

Happy Friday, and Happy Eid to those families celebrating today!

This week has been full of excellent work; debating about Caesar (was he a hero or a villain?), making scientific observations, and building aqueducts!

In Science this week, we found out the results of our teeth experiment! To begin with, we poured out the various liquids from our cups leaving just the egg inside. Each egg looked different. We found that the water had affected the egg the least and there were hardly any changes to the eggs. We also found out that the orange juice had affected the egg the most and had crystallised around the shell due to the high amount of sugar. There was some great scientific language used throughout the observations!

Developing positive mental health for staff and students is fundamental to the work we do here at Cookridge Primary. As part of our continuous efforts to promote this, we have jumped on board with Mental Health Awareness Week’s theme of ‘Nature’ this year. We took part in various outdoor activities connecting us with nature and helping to focus our minds. These included listening to birdsong, cloud gazing, walking around barefoot, animal yoga and playing in the mud! Some children also built some excellent shelters out of natural resources.

This morning we had a fantastic topic morning, focusing on the impact the Romans had on Britain. The children researched various aspects of Roman Britain, including aqueducts, Roman roads and Hadrian’s Wall. They used books and the internet to gather key facts then presented what they learned back to the class. Then the children went outside and worked together to build an aqueduct from a ‘lake’ to a ‘town’! They showed key Forest School skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and great resilience when things didn’t go to plan. After first trying it out with a bucket of water the children problem solved together and improved their initial designs.

Learnatics

Congratulations to our Learnatics this week, who have worked extremely hard and produced some outstanding work in lessons. You are all an inspiration to your peers – well done!

And a very special well done to Leo in Class 5, who received a 50 team points badge today from Mrs Brosnan. This is for always being so polite, smiley and helpful every day in school – thank you and well done!

Reminders

It is PE on Monday so please send your child to school in their PE kit!

Please remember that homework is being set every week on Purple Mash. It is set on a Wednesday and must be completed by the following Tuesday.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
