LKS2 Newsletter 6/5/22

Happy Friday to all our LKS2 children and parents! We’ve had another great week in Y3/4…

In Miss Evans’ maths group, we have continued learning how to find a fraction of an amount. We started the week by using bar models and cubes to practise splitting an amount into equal parts, then counting the correct number of parts to find the fraction. Then we moved on to calculating fractions of amounts in our heads by using the golden rule – ask your child if they can remember what it is!

In Forest School, the children furthered their knowledge of Viking raids by reading about Viking weapons. They identified key features of the weapons then made one themselves! Working in pairs they had to select appropriate materials and used hammers, saws and whittling knives to create their weapon.

In Miss Boyd’s maths this week, we have been continuing with decimals. We have learnt how to make a whole and how to round decimals to the nearest whole number. One of the activities linked to our topic of Vikings where we had to round each of the longboat parts to the nearest metre. We then answered problem solving open-ended questions to challenge ourselves.

We had an exciting geography lesson this week, using our new compasses on the playground.  In partners, we identified North and then used this to find which areas of the playground faced East, West and South, as well as the intercardinal compass points.  Once we were confident, we drew our own compass using chalk, showing the accurate directions of all 8 compass points.

Well done everyone for working so hard!

Please remember Monday is PPA day, so your child must come to school in their PE kit.

W e hope you have a lovely weekend!
