LKS2 – Weekly Newsletter – 18/9/20

What an incredible second week back LKS2 have had!

On Monday, we all tested our creativity skills in Art as we learnt how drawing various shapes on a page can be turned into a whole city! We learnt how to create sounds using our hands in Music and started to acquire knowledge on cricket in PE.

In Miss Boyd’s maths this week, year 4 have been getting back into the swing of mathematical thinking and recapping some of the basic skills from year 3. We have also continued our learning on understanding four digit numbers. Our focus has been on partitioning these numbers in various ways and we have used place value counters alongside a part-whole diagram to gain full understanding. Later on in the week, we moved onto ordering four digit numbers in ascending order and descending order using out mathematical language and re-introducing some problem solving elements.

Miss Evans’ maths class have had an absolutely brilliant start to the year. We are working extremely hard on our place value knowledge, and have started comparing and ordering 4 digit numbers. Today, we ordered a long list of numbers from smallest to biggest – ascending order! We also wrote numbers on to 4 post it notes, and rearranged them to make lots of different 4 digit numbers. We recorded these on our white boards and then ordered them in our books. Some of us also looked at placing numbers on a number line. We had to figure out which two multiples of ten the number   came between, and then place the number on the correct place on the line.

Mr Gamble’s maths class took the opportunity of working in the glorious sunshine today to arrange three digit numbers into ascending and descending order. Some activities required pupils to read the number presented in either words or pictorial form or order prices of items which were in pounds and pence.

In English, LKS2 have all been learning about the Stone Age. We have been researching various facts whilst practicing our paired reading. Also, we gained more information after watching video clips about the Stone Age whilst withdrawing key facts. Alongside this, we have been recapping how to use our meaning breakdown strategies, learnt in year 3, to understand difficult words. Finally, we checked our meaning using our dictionary skills.

We have been learning all about internet safety in our computing this week. We have learnt how to stay SAFE when using the internet by recognising acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. Also, we identified a range of ways to report concerns about content we might find on the internet and contact we might have with others online.

We hope you have a great weekend!

Stay safe,

The LKS2 Team.
