Reception – Forest School

Today Reception had a wonderful morning which was split into three parts. Two activities were in our Forest School area. The first challenge was to help plant sunflower seeds as we kick started our first project related to Reception’s new topic after Easter – growing! Overall, we planted 75 giant sunflower seeds with the aim of creating a living sunflower room we can go in over the summer months – watch this space for updates! The second activity was helping Mr Gamble at the fire pit to melt chocolate so we could create chocolate Easter nests. Using fire gloves, we carefully grew our fire so it was hot enough before stirring the blocks of chocolate until they melted. We then mixed it with cornflakes and added a chocolate egg or two on the top – they were delicious! Our third task of the morning was a local walk which put our geography skills to the test. We spotted local features and landmarks in our local area and recorded them on our sheets.
