Reception – National Hedgehog Day – Forest School
We have been celebrating National Hedgehog Day (which was on Monday) in our Forest School session today. Pupils could lead their own learning and take part in lots of hedgehog related activities. Inside the canopy classroom, children could make hedgehogs using clay, sticks, tools, teasel seed heads and anything else they could find! Once complete, children could take their hedgehogs outside to the sandpit where they could make hedgehog houses and tunnels for them to live in safely. Children could also role-play in our wooded area where children were transformed into hedgehogs and had to build themselves a nice cosy den using our sticks and tarps for their winter hibernation. In the mud kitchen, pupils were tasked with creating delicious meals for hedgehogs or for themselves to take into their dens to provide food for the long winter months! As usual, children also found the mud and had a great time playing in it and trying to move through it like a hedgehog would do!
