UKS2 – Creative Play – Forest School

Pupils in UKS2 started their Forest School session by discussing New Year Resolutions. They talked about why they are made, who makes them, what they are and how hard it can be to stick to them, especially with last Friday (the second Friday in January)  being known as ‘Quitter’s Day’ – the day most people give up on resolution they made only days ago. They were astonished to discover that by February, 80% of people who made New Year Resolutions will have quit them. Pupils then helped Mr Gamble achieve one of his New Year Resolutions which is to plan more creative play sessions for the older pupils to develop intrinsic skill sets. Children had the rest of the session to work on some of the key skills of Forest School – resilience, creativity, trying new things and respect. Pupils could use tools, play in the sandpit and mud kitchen, build dens and swings, craft using string, scissors and loose parts and generally just be kids and play. At the end, we discussed the importance of being imaginative for life in high school and as an adult and how play is a fantastic way to learn! Well done UKS2!
