UKS2 – Knots and Shelter Building – Forest School
Pupils in UKS2 revisited a skill they haven’t done in a while – knots and shelter building. To begin with, they revisited the two knots need to pitch a tent shelter – the Prusik and Bowline knots. After a bit of practice of both, children then got into teams to erect their shelter using the knots and skills needed. With the sun and heat today, children enjoyed relaxing in their shady spot before taking down their shelter in the opposite way to putting them up and tidied everything away to leave no trace that they were there – a very relevant topic given the recent wildfires which some have been started by discarded glass bottles and smouldering fires not properly extinguished by campers.
