UKS2 – Newsletter – 19.11.21

It has been a busy week in UKS2 and we’ve had a lot of fun!

On Monday, in Forest School, we continued our series of lessons on fire building. Stripping right back to the basics, the children strove to build confidence in their fire lay construction and material collection. Remembering the importance of the fire pyramid, the children were challenged to create the optimum conditions for building and sustaining a fire.

On Tuesday, with a steady rise in knife related crimes being reported over the last few years, it is essential that young people understand the consequences of carrying a knife. The biggest concern and risk is that if a young person carries a knife they will almost definitely use it in a situation where they feel the need to protect themselves, commit a crime, cause fear or reinforce their reputation. This afternoon, pupils received a presentation from our local PCSOs about knife crime – the message is ‘Do not carry a knife!’

On Thursday, three Year 6 pupils went on a writing workshop to Ireland Wood which was led by Andy Craven-Griffiths, a leading children’s author. Our children worked as a group to create their own poem along with other schools from our local area, including Ireland Wood and Iveson. Out of the the 10+ groups, the children had to vote for their favourite poem and Cookridge Primary came a fantastic second place! Well done!

Also on Thursday,  UKs2 put their dance moves into action to create their very own Haka. The children had to think about their precise arm movements, facial expressions and stamping legs to create fierce Haka dances. Each group shared their Haka dance so the children could take inspiration from each other and improve their own dances.

Today (Friday) has been a very exciting day because we went on a trip to the cinema! Children enjoyed the cultural and cinematic experience of an anime film. All the pupils’ behaviour was great and we enjoyed watching brilliant art come to life in film.

Remember that Monday (22.11.21) is PPA day; so, children must be in their PE kit.

Also, on Monday are Parent Consultations. Here is the link to sign-up if you haven’t already: https://www.cookridgeprimary.co.uk/parents-and-carers/parent-consultation-booking/
