UKS2 – Newsletter – 23.04.2021

It has been an exciting first week back in UKS2. On Monday, we had an Aztec themed cross-curricular day. With activities including: a Forest School construction of an Aztec temple, a PE lesson playing ‘Ullamaliztli’ (an Aztec ball game), a RIC on the rules of ‘Ullamaliztli’ and an art lesson creating stamps based on Aztec art, the children have enjoyed an action packed and active day learning about this long lost empire.

On Wednesday, Class 9 investigated classification in science. They were tasked with organising images of different animals into their relative categories, using their knowledge of group and animal characteristics.

On Thursday, UKs2 enjoyed the spring sunshine for their basketball lesson. Focusing on key skills including: dribbling, shooting and catch and pass movement, the children showed off their sporting prowess.

Today, Class 10 took to the school field to role play the battle of Otumba (the focus of our first Aztec themed write). Using their existing knowledge of the battle tactics employed by the Spanish and the Aztecs, everyone got into character and enjoyed a real life walkthrough of that fateful day.

Finally, today in maths Class 8 went outside to complete some maths in the sunshine. Using a dice, a multiplication grid and the chances of fate, the children came up with their own calculations to practice long and short multiplication!

Remember, Monday (26.04.2021) is a PPA day so children will need to come in their PE kits. We also have a Forest School session on Thursday (29.04.2021) We also recommend (as the weather gets hotter) children bring a named water bottle to school if they don’t already.

We hope you have a restful weekend and enjoy the most of the weather!
