Year 2 – Class 3 – The walking water experiment

As part of our Science cross curricular day, Class 3 wanted to investigate how water travels from the roots to the flower head. We experimented with paper towels as they are ‘absorbent’ to see if they can make water travel from one plastic cup to another. We placed food colouring in 3 of the cups and left 3 of the cups empty. We observed throughout the day to see if the water has travelled from one cup to the other. We were pleased to see that the water did travel through the cups which means that the roots must absorb the water from the soil and help it travel to the flower! The children had some really good discussions from this.
