Year 6 – Orchard Preparation – Forest School
The pupils in Year 6 learnt about orchards today and the vital role they play in food production for us humans, habitat creation for wildlife and the important food source they provide for bees in Spring. Following our visit to Little Beck Farm in the Autumn where we picked fruit from their orchard to make juice, children began the task of planting our very own orchard here at Cookridge Primary! Next week, we have 15 trees arriving (5 apple, 5 pear and 5 plum) and children had to accurately measure, design and stake where the new trees would go. When everyone was happy and after an inspection by Mrs Hunter, pupils got to work digging the holes! They worked their socks off and we are all looking forward to completing the orchard next week. We we all so busy that we forgot to take a lot of photos!
